Exodus 3:13-15
13 But Moses said to God, “If I come to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” 14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am.”[a] He said further, “Thus you shall say to the Israelites, ‘I am has sent me to you.’” 15 God also said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord,[b] the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you’:
This is my name forever,
and this my title for all generations.
Reflection
What does God look like? Feel like? Sound like? If you were to describe God what words would you use? What images might help you to depict God?
Today, or sometime this weekend , I invite you to draw a picture or find a symbol of something that reminds you of God. I’m guessing some of you have not drawn in a long time. I’m also guessing that for many people, finding words or symbols to represent your image and understanding of God might be a new challenge. I encourage you to take up the challenge and enjoy exploring your own connection to God.
Once you have your picture or symbol, place it somewhere you will see it regularly. Notice it each day. Adapt it or add to it as your understanding of God grows. Let it be a visible reminder to you of God who is always with you.
Prayer
God, I come to you in prayer, and yet I don’t always know how I imagine “YOU.” Open my heart and my mind to put words and images to how I experience you in my life. Help me to know you more fully. Amen.
